Montgomery County, Virginia Circa 1790 [paper]
In 1790, Montgomery County, Virginia was a vast domain. It included territory now in twenty-two (22) Virginia and West Virginia counties: [Virginia–Bland, Carroll, Craig, Floyd, Giles, Grayson, Montgomery, Pulaski, Roanoke, Smythe, Tazewell, Wythe; West Virginia–Boone, Fayette, Kanawha, Logan, McDowell, Mercer, Mingo, Raleigh, Summers, Wyoming.] Two types of records are abstracted in this work–land records and tax records. Emphasis has been placed on locating the residence of each taxpayer. A 16″ x 24″ map which the author drafted for use in connection with this work assists in this task.
